Stories for Kids: Adventures of Monkey Girl and Ferret Girl

I have two kids, and since they were born I have been telling them stories about Monkey Girl and Ferret Girl. Over the years, the stories evolved to include myself and our friends and neighbors. After my divorce from their mother, I started writing them in little notebooks.

I plan to put some of them up here, so before I do that I thought some context would be good. In the stories, Monkey Girl and Ferret Girl solve their problems via the use of technology, trickery, or diplomacy. I wanted the stories to encourage brains over brawns. I wanted problems to be solved with something other than violence. Both monkey girl and ferret girl are engineer/scientist types. They can pick locks, hack computers, build machines…

While in the beginning the stories were about whatever I was reading at the time, over time they evolved to reflect my own experiences. Living apart from them, these books were my way of telling them what I was going through.

I can not guarantee that the stories are 100% mine. I am sure I was inspired by many books and stories, but to the best of my knowledge, there shouldn’t be any that is blatantly copied from somewhere.

The stories are self referential, and sometimes you would get hints at earlier stories that were told, rather than written. Just roll with it, I hope you enjoy the adventures of Monkey Girl and Ferret Girl.
