My WordPress.com renewal was coming up at the end of this month. I wanted my hosting closer to home (cough*Greenland*cough), so I jumped the gun and got hosting with a Danish company. The whole experience made me ponder this blog and what has changed in it. Buckle up for a meta-post.
I started writing this blog in 2015… The blog has been a witness to intercontinental relocation, major career and life changes. Over ten years, you can definitely see how my writing and interests have evolved. What started as a signal for the job market became a diary of sorts…
Migration was not hassle-free. There were some issues in importing the image files. Some of the posts used a block style that I no longer have access to… I had to go through and fix image galleries in each of the 100+ posts. The old theme I used was also not available with my new hosting provider. That required me to adopt a new theme and customize it. I am pretty pleased with what I achieved in a few days.
The tagline of the blog had recently been changed to Write Only Memories. What I write here is on the one hand deeply personal, and on the other hand still what I consider public. I am posting it on the internet, after all. Funnily enough, this little blog gets some views from around the world. Mostly from Denmark and the United States… I must admit, seeing my posts viewed gives me a tiny bit of pleasure.

Being someone conscious of privacy, I wanted to have a way of getting those numbers without giving Google access to my readers’ browsing habits. So I made a choice of using analytics tools that lived only on the hosted site. For the first time ever, this blog has a privacy policy, a cookies policy, and a consent toolbar. Just so I can tell you I don’t collect your data. I took some joy in setting it up to respect privacy.
When I started writing this blog, I did not expect to do it for 10 years. I write only for my pleasure (hence ‘write only‘) but I do hope you are also enjoying my writing a bit. Here’s to the next 10 years!
