These days my evenings are quite uneventful. So in these lockdown days I am revisiting miniature painting. It also helps that I have Gloomhaven lying about waiting to get painted. So today I sat down and painted the Brute from Gloomhaven. Unfortunately I don’t have progress pictures. I took some pictures before I begin and…
In 2013 for a brief moment in time you could purchase Clinton Reno’s “I Want You To Hit Me As Hard As You Can”. It went on sale for $30 and was sold out the same day. According to this Reddit post only 40 were ever made. The poster became a sort of obsession for…
I have always liked how Philips Ambilight looked but didn’t want to replace my carefully selected gaming monitor just yet. The other after market solutions were too expensive and too clunky (a camera pointed at the screen? really?). Last time I checked (back in USA) there wasn’t a good solution for this. A week ago,…
After the wiring came the software side of things. At first I was not very keen on using QMK. I wanted to just download a hex file and flash it on to the board and be done with it. That is difficult due to a few things. There are so many ways the keyboard can…
After the upper case and key switches were put together I started wiring. I started by following the guide on dactyl git repository but the lack of updates and details quickly drove the project in to the ground. My original intention was to minimize learning and just to blindly follow the guides. That attitude got…
So my first project for this year is to get a Dactyl. In true open source spirit, the case is on thingiverse and there are already a dozen iterations of it. What I wanted was to have wrist-rests integrated to the main body. So I got the regular dactyl top and a modified bottom case,…
I am preparing to build a dactyl keyboard and for that I would need switches. Denmark being Denmark, it was hard to get mechanical switches for a reasonable price. I had to improvise a bit to get all the parts. Amazon.de had the switches but wouldn’t deliver to Denmark, and the ones that did deliver…
I recently moved to Denmark. One of the worries I had was to keep my phone number to allow two factor authentication. Of course I updated my contact information on all important pages, but I was worried I would forget some. Some pages just straight out would not allow a Danish phone number to begin…
I got my new and sexy Matebook X Pro earlier in the week. The reviews were right, it can get somewhat loud at times. One thing I can’t stand is a loud computer. The problem with having an i7 and a discrete nvidia GPU in an ultrabook body is that getting rid of all the…
I finished painting stuffed fables. These may be the last minis I paint in US, as I packed my paints and brushes for the move. Heck I am even selling the desk I used to paint miniatures on. Anyway, I started off carefully. Paying attention to details and generally implementing all techniques I learned. Towards…
Got around to painting Scythe minis. The character figurines were quite detailed and I ended up using a few tricks I never used before.
What is the deal with the scale mismatch between the mechs of different factions? Rusviet Mech looks like a dieselpunk exoskeleton maybe 5-6m tall, all the others look like they are giant walking fortresses 20 mt tall. I like the detail on the Rusviet mech to be honest but I still find it a bit…
One of the things I will miss about OU is the BoG summit that John Bowditch and Paul Mass organizes every year. Considering my research area, it was a blessing to have BoG so nearby. This year too I just walked down the Court street to join the conference. While I could not attend all…
I have been sniping parts for a while now, now finally with the Black Friday discounts, I was able to put together a new machine. Azade as always helped me put it together. I also snagged an Odyssey+ on the Samsung BF deal. The cable length is ridiculous, but the resolution is amazing. The only…
Finally finished painting Zombicide Black Plague minis.
I attended GDEX today thanks to the GRID lab and John. It was everything you imagine a gaming expo to be, with cosplay, FPV drone racing, cool demos and so on. While attendance of geeks and nerds was a given anywhere in the world, I was not expecting this much on the supply side in…
I discuss my experience in setting up a ceiling based retractable cable management system for HTC Vive.
Through some mishaps in Vive repair process, I found myself as the proud owner of a third light house. The thing has been lying around gathering dust since it arrived. This weekend, I set out to put it to use. I established two rooms with separate tracking through three lighthouses. The setup could not have…
It has been a while since I finished the Last Night on Earth minis (great game btw). I was a bit miffed with how the minis would shift around in the box, rubbing against each other. Dullcote can only protect them so far after all… So I have been thinking of making an insert for the…
I jumped the gun and ordered the Fog of Love after seeing the AMA with the designer on reddit. The game offers a two player board game in the tone of romantic comedies. This premise was very attractive to me, as we lost our gaming groups in Arizona and with the kids, it was hard…
I have been slowly working on the zombicide minis. Finally this week I finished painting the regular zombies and fatties. All that remains are the special infected and the heroes. I guess the game will be ready to play by summer.
